When people think about Armageddon many times they believe that it means the end of the world. Yet the literal definition of Armageddon is actually the gathering place for the armies just before the final battle at the end of the seven-year tribulation period. The word means "Mount of Megiddo" which refers to a large hill overlooking a valley in northern Israel.

Armageddon couldn't possibly refer to the "end of the world" since the Bible promises this world will never come to an end!

There is also more than just one singular battle during the tribulation period but an entire war campaign. This will be World War III and there will actually be three different military waves spanning approximately a 3 1/2 year period.

1. The First Wave

The first battle will occur as the king of the north and the king of the south march to the Middle East. The king of the north is Russia and the king of the south is Egypt and her Arab Federation.

Iraq will be part of the Arab Federation that marches with Russia during this opening phase of three different military advances. This move will likely disrupt the peace in the Middle East, which will eventually lead to the most catastrophic time in history.

2. The Second Wave

The second military wave comes out of the orient as an army of 200 million soldiers advance towards Israel.

During this second wave, 200 million soldiers will march to the Middle East. The great Euphrates River will dry up and they will be allowed to cross through on their march towards Israel.

3. The Third Wave

The third and final campaign comes when all nations march to the Middle East at the end of the tribulation period. This happens just before Jesus Christ returns.

John describes this event in the Book of Revelation: "And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army." (Revelation 19:19)

These armies are gathered together to battle the Lord of Lords but they won't stand a chance!

All their efforts will be futile because Jesus will come back to end the battle for good! They won't even be able to put up a fight... the war will be over the very moment Christ appears.

Jesus is coming back to put a stop to all those who are destroying the earth. What a glorious day that will be. He is coming back to stop all war and to stop all evil. He will then setup up His kingdom here on earth for one-thousands years. The earth won't be destroyed as many believe, but instead Jesus will setup his millennial reign of peace, love, righteousness, and justice!
